Mount Wachusett Community College, in Gardner MA offers a 2-year program for Graphic and Interactive Designer students. This final course in the GID program helps students assemble and present their best work produced in the program. Using an Asian brush stroke in the logo would be a nod to your heritage, which is an interesting idea. However, the brush stokes need to be more precise, flowing, and beautiful. If this is the way you want to approach it - please do your research and look at what has been done. A quick google search has brought me to a few:

I would also suggest you look at this as a combination of cultures - maybe you'd like to use a more contemporary font... sans serif even?
Really liking the first one with the big brush N, Nikki. I think it has a lot of personality. My critique would be to have a different font for "Graphic Designer." It's a really cool idea to use the brush like that.
