Dinner and Shake Menu Rework
I have incorporated the suggestions made last week and am reposting my menus with those changes. I have removed the "no signal" multi-color background from the dinner menu spread and have made a composition of a black and white tv "no signal" with some other elements to fit the Twilight Zone aesthetic. I was able to find a Twilight Zone inspired typeface and have used it throughout both menus for the restaurant name and headings/subheadings for the menu items. The only other thing I changed on the dessert menu was the typeface (as I mentioned) and I refined the back cover a bit by enlarging some of the copy and removing the white rectangle behind the contact information. Let me know what you think and if there are things that could be further improved.

I love this, Jen! It definitely captures that creepy Twilight Zone vibe. I like the pops of that blue with the black and white. I honestly can't really think of anything to change. Great job!
ReplyDeleteJenn - as I look through the pages, I come to page 2 and realize that typeface is much more readable when it is used all CAPS. Can you do this on the cover too? It would make a lot of sense. to have stronger typography there. Also, because in the 50s printing in 4/c was so expensive... it makes sense that you are limiting your colors. But I have to wonder why there are a number of different blues? Why not use the same blue? Since there is a lot of hand- coloring here, have you thought about putting together a color palette of 4-6 colors... and sticking with those colors (and shades and tints of them)? That might help the pages of the project unify together - even as the design approach shifts from page to page. Just a thought... but color is such a strong element that with an intentional color palette applied throughout... it would help pull these very very different pages together into 1 project. I think it's probably important to do this.
ReplyDeleteI really like this menu design! I also like the colors you chose like the black and white since it fits your Twilight design theme aesthetic. The menu reminds me of the Twilight Zone TV shows. I like the blue color you used for your text since it pops out from the black and white background.
