Project 3 Malala Illustration

This piece is my illustrated portrait of Malala.  I have chosen a darker hue for the background to create greater contrast with the stack of books.  Any feedback/comments welcomed!

  1. I think the change of the background really makes the portrait pop! I love how the background looks. One thing is maybe change the text placements and the font of 'Malala'. The text on the left is small and there is a lot of it that makes it look daunting to read. Maybe move the quote up to have it more center on the right side.

  2. The illustration looks amazing! I love how you illustrated Malala and the background! I agree that the text on the right should be placed maybe in the center. It would fill up that empty space better. Also maybe give her a drop shadow so that she stands out more. Maybe move the text on the left a little below the “Hate Targets Hope,” to give It space between them.

  3. I encourage you to rethink the type placement of each text item (upper left, lower right, and the heading). The books are a great addition to the piece, but they do present more of a challenge in terms of text placement. Consider moving the important quote to the top left, where there is less going on in the background... moving her name down and increasing its size will allow it to sit on top of those background books with no problem I think. And then there is the upper left text. Hmmm... it clearly needs to stay there, but what about adding space between the paragraphs, and then try flush right as it wraps around her head? It can extend further down the page as it wraps down towards her shoulder. Last thought - make sure to establish a larger margin around the edges of the poster... the text is too close to the edges.

  4. This is such a beautiful illustration. The bright pinks in the main character really stand out against the background of the books. I think something that stands out for me is the amount of negative space in the artwork. The text could maybe be arranged differently depending on how you decide to go forward with the project.
