I'm leaving town for 4 days, so I'm jumping in here to leave some thoughts. Cover: you should remove the ":" between "page... 5". It isn't necessary. Contents: the white background on this page lends a stark contrast to the ripped paper shapes and allows this to actually be inviting to read. But it does make me wonder about the editorial spread that follows. The photo isn't easily understood, and the color palette that so successfully sits on the previous page is not used here. I think the teal color was part of the success of the previous pages... would you consider how to incorporate it here as well? Is this the only image available? Maybe there is a better one available now?
ReplyDeleteI appreciate so many of your design decisions for this project so I personally am finding a hard time suggesting improvements. I am curious to see another color besides white used for the background of your contents page. I would maybe try using the eyedropper to pick up a light color from the graphic on the right?
ReplyDeleteI can see this as being a real magazine, it truly fits the aesthetic of a metal music magazine. Maybe you can play around a little bit with the torn pieces of the contents page to maximize the white space. Would a bit of a drop shadow add a feeling of a real torn page? This is a very solid piece of design work.
