Project 3: Illustration
This is my illustration of Abraham Lincoln. I have made Lincoln text bigger and the paragraph text bigger. I have also added a drop shadow behind Lincoln.

I still think that the upper heading could use the space more wisely… his last name could be a much taller condensed bold font. It needs to be, I think. The 2 paragraphs of type look very dense, no? In fact the descenders are hitting the ascenders! So, add substantial line spacing, and adjust the background shape to allow for that. The date is hard to see against the mid-value gray background. More contrast is needed - maybe pull that back up to sit on the dark bar near his forehead (I think it was there initially, yes?). Keep working with this - keeping in mind the values of your colors behind the type.
ReplyDeleteHi Nikki! I really like how you chose purple/blue for the stars colors because it pairs nicely with the gold. I agree that the date is hard to see against the background. Also, I feel like there isn't much contrast to Lincoln and the gray background since he has a lot of gray values within his hair, bow and suit.
ReplyDeleteI love the little indigo stars scattered around the design! It adds a little pop since you have so many neutral colors going on. I also like the font you chose for his name, I think it works really well.
