Project 5 Critique
This is my 5th project in need of revision. It's supposed to be a poster sized image of an old school New York musician. I'm relatively happy with it so far, but i could definitely use some critique or suggestions on this piece.
Mount Wachusett Community College, in Gardner MA offers a 2-year program for Graphic and Interactive Designer students. This final course in the GID program helps students assemble and present their best work produced in the program. This blog is produced by the GID Portfolio class under the direction of instructor Coni Porter.
I think the concept of this design is cool but I feel as though the colors are kind of clashing and there's not enough contrast as there could be. I like the typeface choice, but I'm wondering if Moondog would look better if it sat behind the Viking and off centered.
ReplyDeleteThe colors don't seem to unite into a cohesive color palette. Maybe the background should simply be black (you don't need that black drop shadow, in my opinion)? Then, I would work some white back into his portrait - so the contrast is heightened and the image is developed a bit more. It's better to have less colors here, rather than more. So, consider using just white, black, and that gray/blue and see what you can do. Placing a more bold heading behind his head would introduce some depth, as long as the title is readable! These fonts do not pair well - find a more bold (maybe Old English font) and then pair it with sans serif supporting font.
