Book Design

I wanted to redesign the cover for one of my most beloved books as a child. I recreated a few character silhouettes in Illustrator, then in photoshop I used a double exposure effect for the silhouettes. I then used bevel & emboss to give the characters a scrapbook effect. For the background I took an image of a forest, scaled it way up, added a color overlay and lowered the opacity. For the text I used an inner shadow and outer glow to create a paper cutout effect.

  1. Melissa this is SO GOOD!! I love it. I love that you thought to re-design a beloved book from your childhood and the style suits you very well. My one critique would be to stagger the title type rather than have it fully centered. That way you have more room for the images in the center and give the author’s name more room too. It’s absolutely awesome! Great job!

  2. I agree with Chelsea - the artwork here is really strong, but the stacked title doesn't use the space as wisely as it could. I would suggest creating a typographic composition that includes enlarging/reducing some words... so you are also interpreting the title for us.
